Hi and welcome back I’m Character 32 and I am here to help you!

A while back I was in the kitchen happily eating way and then ouch! I feel like there’s food stuck in my throat……

Remembering this has happened before, the feeling that food had gone down the wrong way and nothing serious happened, I went about my day and persevered with the uncomfortable feeling in my throat. I thought to myself this will pass, it’s happened before, there’s nothing to worry about…..

After a day or two, I still had this uncomfortable pain/feeling in my throat particularly when I ate.  So I decided to go to the doctor. I’m not arrogant to self-diagnose with ‘Google’ however I thought it might be ‘Dysphagia’ which can be caused by neurological, mechanical or psychogenic disorders.

I went to my GP and she sent me to my Ear Nose and Throat specialist (ENT) with a referral letter saying I had ‘Dysphagia’.  As soon as I saw that I knew it was psychogenic but I wanted to get my airways checked to be sure.

My ENT who I had seen for the ‘popping’ noises in my ears a few years ago welcomed me back with a smile. As soon as I started telling him my problem he knew my diagnosis within seconds, particularly due to my past history. He went through the motions with me, put the camera down my nose into my throat to prove to me there was nothing ‘stuck’ in my throat. 

We went throught my stresses and concluded I was both emotional and physical stressed. The diagnosis was Globus Syndrome a stress causing reaction within my body. Given I’m an educated patient who understands that stress manifests itself in different ways, he suggested I could research this Globus Syndrome further if I wanted. Thankfully it’s nothing major, it’s just a stress reaction within my body that can be fixed over a few weeks.



So what does the 'Big 3’ Stress Solutions Puzzle look like when it comes to Dysphagia/Global Syndrome?


Emotional Stress with Environmental Stress caused my Physical Stress which is when my ‘Globus’ reared its ugly head. I had lost my yin yang balance!

I have put Emotional Stress on myself trying to get my blog up and running. I need it to be simple enough for people to understand but see the complexities of how it all works. It’s like trying to explain the problem in one sentence when I need a paragraph to do it.

My body is super sensitive and too much of an acidic environment (Environmental Stress) puts my body under Physical Stress. All the champagne I drank the other night put my 56kg into a world of acidic hurt and I felt it for days. That’s when my ‘Globus’ reared its ugly head!

I have been told by my ENT to avoid the 5 S’s Sizzle, Stimulants, Spirits, Spicy and Sour. I need to alkaline my body (this I already knew). 


I refused the ‘Big Pharma’ acidic reducing meds, explained to my ENT my body reacts unfavorably to ‘Big Pharma’ and I prefer the functional medicine approach. So instead we concluded baking soda was ok. Thankfully he’s a respectful ENT that doesn’t push meds on you.

He gave me the option to come back if I needed meds and his email address if I had any questions about Globus Syndrome.  (Why can’t all specialists be this awesome?!?)

The irony behind this blog is the fact I have been in me ENT’s office twice in the past 3 years with physical symptoms manifested by stress. We sat there together working through ‘The Big 3’ looking for the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle that needed fixing.

I said to my ENT as I was leaving his office “The ironic thing is I am stressed about my blog which is about stress!”. We both laughed and he wished me success on my blog.

I’m happy to report my Globus went away within a few days once I knew it was stress, and I then knew how to address it. I didn’t need any ‘Big Pharma’ meds just some plain and simple home remedies, some green juices and remembering I am the master of my own mind.
