Welcome to my beloved old home town Sydney, a place hubby and I called home for over 10 before we left in 2012 when we moved aboard. There’s so much I can write about this city, I just love it (and still miss it!). If fact I’m a little choked up right now as I’m writing this blog…..How I miss my beloved Sydney!
If you only had a day to experience this wonderful city and wanted to know ‘THE BEST’ things to see and do, then here are my top 6 tips for you!
The best 6 sights of Sydney
1. Sydney Harbour and Opera House
The Sydney Harbour and Opera House are iconic for a reason and it’s not just because they’re both magnificent in all their glory. Celebrities such as Oprah and TV shows like Bold and The Beautiful have chosen this backdrop for filming on more than one occasion.
I’ve got so many wonderful memories around this harbour and I can’t describe why I feel so attached to it, but there’s just something about it that makes my soul so happy! #ilovesydharbour
Here I’m standing where I attended Oprah’s Ultimate Australian Adventure in December 2010. I still remember how excited we all were and the great vibrant energy that surrounded the event. I’ll never forget screaming my head off when Oprah announced “Pink Argyle Diamond Necklace for everyone!”… Yes #goodtimes
Here in the Royal Botanical Gardens is where my husband and I married in 2005, just up on the hill behind me under the big tree.
Once upon a time I worked for News Limited and help organise The Chairman’s Christmas Party which was held here on Bennelong Lawn. Don’t you just love the view?!?
On a clear blue day when the sun is shining I think it’s the best looking city in the world. There are places to eat along Circular Quay or you can stop off at The Opera Bar where you can sit down and relax whilst enjoying a drink or two! You can walk around the Opera House or climb the harbour bridge (hubby has done that twice!).
The best way to experience the harbour is from the water. Jump on a ferry from Circular Quay and head on over to Manly. Once you arrive at Manly head towards the beach. Walk straight ahead out of the ferry terminal through the shopping mall until you reach the beach. After you’ve enjoyed Manly beach there’s a great bar/pub on the water front called The Steyne. Here you can grab a great meal while enjoying the beach view. Once you’ve finished at Manly hop on the ferry and head back to the city. The view of the harbour from the water is just incredible!
3. The Rocks
Shopping anyone? The Rocks in Sydney is filled with old historical buildings and shops. You can spend hours wondering around here because there’s plenty to see and do. The Rocks also has a market on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. You’ll find an array of different things from fashion, homewares, art and food to name a few. There’s also museums and art galleries as well as high end label stores. All of which you can enjoy whilst see the magnificent Harbour Bridge towering in the back ground.
The newly developed area of Sydney is called Barangaroo. Although there’s still a lot of work being done in area it’s still a great place to check out. There’s a fantastic new ‘foodhall’ with awesome food if you’re looking for a quick bit to eat. Alternatively, If you’re looking for restaurants along the water there are plenty to choose from! Barangaroo is located next to Darling Harbour another tourist area in Sydney. It’s easy to get to Barangaroo from Wynyard Train Station. Follow the signs and walk through the new awesome tunnel (which reminds me of Singapore!).
This part of town is catered for tourist which is why it’s filled with restaurants and touristy things to do. The IMAX is located here for large viewing entertainment and you'll also find the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium. If you feel like 10 Pin Bowling or playing some Laser Skirmish, then this is the location for you!
This is the main shopping strip in Sydney aside from George Street, Castlereagh Street and The Rocks. Here’s where you’ll find all your mainstream brands like Zara. There’s a massive Westfield shopping centre which adjoins the 2 biggest department stores called Myer and David Jones. You can spend all day here shopping (blog below). There’s also entertainment happening most days of the week. You never know what’s in store until you check it out.
My Overview of Sydney
If you’ve never been to see Sydney Harbour and Opera House then put it on your travel list! I’ll be blogging more about the great city over the next few months and I’ll put the links below for you reference.
I hope you enjoy my old home town the magnificent and glorious Sydney. I think she’s one of the prettiest city in the world! But don’t ask people from Melbourne because they think Melbourne is better? Um no! ha ha ha
