10 Cheap and Quick Places to eat in New York in Manhattan

If you’re like me I like to ‘eat on the run’ so I’m not wasting too much time when I’m busy on a shopping mission or sightseeing all day. Therefore, I need to find cheap, quick and easy places to eat because it’s important. Here are some places I’ve eaten in NYC over the years.

Healthy Eating Options

1. Pret A Manger

Healthy eating meets large global food chain which also helps feed the homeless, there are so many reasons I love Pret! Plus, they use organic coffee making it a great place to have breakfast too! Here you can grab salads, soups and sandwiches as well as small snacks. Eat in or take away Pret has got you covered!

2. Wholefoods Markets

There are a few Wholefood Markets around Manhattan and they have lots of healthy eating options for you including fresh juices and kombucha too! Here you can also grab snacks to go making it a great place healthy eat and run option. Our last stay in Manhattan I was there every morning getting my juice and kombucha to start my day on a healthy note!

Fast Food Burgers In NYC

No counting calories here! ha ha ha

3. Five Guys

This fast food chain is all over the country and there are few locations in Manhattan. They make great burgers (I personally think they are better than Shack Shake and Johnny Rockets). But if you have a peanut allergy stay away they cook their fries in peanut oil.

4. Shake Shack

This is another fast food chain which is all over the country and there are few locations in Manhattan. We have eaten from the one in Battery Park a few times and it’s pretty good.

5. Johnny Rockets

When we first arrived in the USA back in 2006 our friends in Chicago took us to a Johnny Rockets and we loved it. We then ate it in Los Angles, Los Vegas and Manhattan. They also do great thick shakes.

Bagels in NYC

6. Best Bagel and Coffee

There is a reason they call themselves best bagel and that’s because it is! This place gets packed and their bagels are amazing! You can go wrong with the sesame and cream cheese it will rock your world (yes I know I don’t eat gluten but for these, I make an exception!).

Location: 225 West 35th Street, New York, NY 10001 (Near Macy’s)

7. Pick a Bagel

When we were staying with our friends in downtown Manhattan because we couldn’t stay in our place after Super Storm Sandy, we discovered this place. It became our morning breakfast place, my husband would get bagels for everyone and we would enjoy our feast! They are good (not as great as Best Bagel) but I still eat one every now and then when I’m in town because they are good! Again, you can go wrong with the sesame and cream cheese.

Location: Battery Park, 102 N End Ave, New York, NY 10282 (Near World Trade Centre)

Other Options for eating in Manhattan

8. Magnolia Bakery

Ever since Sex and The City this bakery really got put on the map, they expanded and have a few stores around Manhattan. The line-ups are still long but it’s worth wait if you’re wanting awesome cheesecake, cupcake or cookie!

9. Grab a NYC Slice of Pizza

One thing you can be sure of is you’ll find slices of pizza everywhere you go (and they will smell amazing!). We used to always grab a slice of Rays Pizza (736 7th Avenue, Bet 48 & 49 st, New York). But there is also Famous Original Ray’s Pizza too which is also good!

10. Food VenDors

I’ve never eaten from the street food vendors but there is one thing you can be sure of in Manhattan you’ll find them everywhere!

It really doesn’t matter where you are in Manhattan there is never a shortage of food – EVER! But if you are looking for places where you can ‘eat on the run’ then these are a good few options.
