Being a ‘Globetrotter’ means I have to think before I pack otherwise I can be hauling around suitcases day after day when I don’t always need to. Over the years I’ve learned the art and skill of how to pack light for short trips which has made my life so much easier when it comes to travel.
My Louis Vuitton Keepall and I have been travelling together for over 10 years (yes years!) so I know how much I can fit in her. This LV and I have done so much travel together she is has become my travelling companion. She’s not only done overseas travel but all our other travel in Australia which has been a decent amount. So I thought I’d show you how easy it can be to ‘pack light’ and get away with carry-on luggage under 12kg for my four-day getaway to London this weekend.
Here I’ve laid out all the items I need to take with me so you can see how much stuff I need for a few days away.
My packing check list for this trip
- Louis Vuitton Keepall 55 – my carry-on luggage
- Ralph Lauren Bag – my day bag with holds lots of items
- Louis Vuitton Damier Pochette – my evening bag for going out
- Louis Vuitton Damier – my purse to go with my Louis Vuitton Damier Pochette
- Prada Backpack – for my Mac
- Louis Vuitton scarf in the small soft black bag
- Ralph Lauren black warm jacket
- Tops including a few thermals and jumpers
- Ralph Lauren Jeans
- Black leggings
- Cream cashmere beret (my signature I’ve been wearing for years!)
- Morganthel Frederics sunglasses
- Underwear, socks and sleepwear
- Toiletries in a clear bag so airport security can see everything inside
- Hunter boots for day wear and in case it rains (hello travelling to London)
- Black boots for all other occasions
How to pack step 1
How to pack step 2
I put my Ralph Lauren day bag which is now full into my LV Keepall then I put my black boots in a plastic bag and add them into the bag. Then I add the umbrella and remaining clothes I need to pack.
How to pack step 3
Important tip! In my Prada Backpack I put my laptop and toiletries because it makes it easier when I go through airport security to have everything that needs to be pulled out and screened separately in the same bag (trust me on this one). Lastly, I add my Ralph Lauren black warm jacket because it folds easily is really light and also adds as further protection for my Mac.
As you can see I put each item into other items thus utilising my space well which is what makes me so efficient in packing. It’s all about using your space wisely and putting your clothes into all the surrounding extra space you have because they are flexible.
Now that I have gotten everything in its place and ready to go, I’ve had a chance to assess and I can make room for my Joan Collins book (which has been around the world a few times with me now over the years, l love reading Joan!). She is always by my side when I don’t feel like ‘working’ aka doing ‘blog’ work whilst I’m travelling.
My 5 Important Travel Tips
Before I leave I make sure my hair is washed so I don’t need to worry about shampoo, conditioner and my hairdryer. General rule if my flight is before midday I wash it the night before and if the flight is after midday I wash it in the morning before I leave. I also pluck my eyebrows/trim nails etc because I can’t take certain things on the plane.
I wear my heaviest items for the trip and in this instance it’s my hunter boots, which are heavy, as is my multi coloured jacket. Then I put all my other lighter items in my Louis Vuitton Keepall 55 and Prada backpack.
Make sure all your toiletries are under 100mls or 100grams because they will be confiscated (had that happen so many time because I have just forgotten!). Now I always remember to check my sizes and to make life a hundred times easier put all my toiletries in a clear bag so airport security can see what’s in there. This stops you from holding up the line and annoying other people behind you and getting ‘that look’ with the stare or eye roll.
4. Plastic bag
I always take a plastic bag with me to put my dirty clothes in there so I am not mixing clean with dirty. I also always put my shoes in a plastic bag as well to stop the spread of germs and all sort of nasty things.
5. Charcoal tablets
I carry charcoal tablets with me should I need them. They are for stomach aches, indigestions, diarrhea, food poisoning, bloating, gas and nausea. Trust me, charcoal tablets are worth their weight in gold and I don’t travel without them. If you use over the counter stuff for heartburn or indigestion try charcoal instead. It’s better, safer and a ‘healthier’ option over the other stuff like Pepto Bismol or Mylanta (which I used to take) although that being said since I’ve changed/fixed my eating habits I don’t really have this issue anymore. I always say it’s better to have them and not need them, then need them and not have them….so that is why I take them.
I hope this blog has given you some ideas on how to pack light for your flight and get away with carry on only, as these few travel tips have served me well over the years. Making travel as easy as possible makes your time away more enjoyable!
