C32 Creating Spaces

We’ve evolved beyond the decadal looks where you could tell if we were living in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s or 80’s. Now we see restorations and renovations to properties that have a personal touch and certain style crossing over eras. Visually for me I love transformations which have been created using bold and innovative living environments through architecture, art, furniture, and colour.

My creative flair comes from both sides of my family, one has the interior design aspect the other has building ingenuity. The spanner I’m holding is my grandfathers and the baby hammer is my fathers that I used as a child banging and bashing away in my grandfathers shed. This means ‘I can work the tools’ and produce an ‘aesthetically pleasing look’, making it a great combination when I’m creating spaces.

Growing up I’ve always been interested in creating spaces. I was always rearranging room even though we moved constantly.  I believe my soul knows what ambience it needs because I feel I have a built-in Feng Shui energy field, therefore it’s important for me to be visually energized, relaxed and comfortable with my surroundings all at the same time.

My converted warehouse obsession started in the late 80’s which meant I was determined to own one one day! So back in 2007 I transformed our rundown old shell warehouse, turning it into a funky, cool and stylish space.

The next project was an 18th month never end nightmare requiring more work than we anticipated as our cosmetic renovation turned into anything but that! I swear our 100+ year old terrace was trying out for the remake of the 80’s movie ‘The Money Pit’ starring Tom Hanks and Shelly Long. We kept hemorrhaging money as the never ending problems snowballed meaning we were fixing water mains, sewer lines, electrical wiring, roof, structural repairs and everything else imaginable. In hindsight I gained a lot of valuable understanding and knowledge as I watched, questioned, learned and helped the different tradesmen along the way.   And then there have been the less demanding transformations where I’ve helped out family and friends with their projects.

I’m constantly inspired as I travel around the world seeing new, different and interesting spaces through architecture, interior design, furniture, colour schemes, art, sculptures and more.  All of which I’ll share with you, including my DIY knowledge. So let’s have some fun and start creating spaces, together we’ll find your ‘zen surroundings’ making your dreams become reality.

Until next time see it, love it, create it! This is Character 32 doing her best to help you!
