As a globetrotting expat who has stuff scattered all over the world I sometimes need to create spaces on a budget.  I’m always coming up with cheap decorating ideas and easy ways to solve this problem. And one of the things I’ve taken to over the years is using magazines. It’s an easy, practical and versatile way to give a space a little something extra!

Here I’ve used an Ikea table which I’ve put up on its side and recycled and added an old bottle of my Blackmore Vitamin B12 which I’ve filled with pens. Then next to the pens I stack a pile of magazines. This is one way you can throw some cheap house décor items together and make it work in a space.

The great thing about using magazines is you can rotate them giving you a different look anytime you feel like a colour change. First I have the Proof Living magazine which I then have replaced with a Louis Vuitton magazine (catalogue they have sent me).

No matter what colour or look you are after the options are endless. Think about magazines on topics you love and have around the house and use those. It might be things on cooking, house and garden, fashion, photography, baby and mother, healthy and lifestyle, however, please avoid using the gossip rags!

Plus, the added bonus is you can stack them up and enjoy reread them all the while rotating them so the top of the pile is constantly changing giving you a different look!

You can place magazines anywhere you like, previously I’ve also used them on bedside tables, coffee tables and dining tables (and no I don’t put them in the bathroom!).

Here I’ve used them here behind my computer desk as a distraction from the fact I’ve tipped the Ikea table on its side so it fits into the corner better and hides the Ikea lamp that gives off a nice soft light at night.

I hope I’ve given you some home and decor ideas on how to create a space with using items you may already have around the house, or maybe I’ve just given you a great excuse to go out and buy some magazines you like!

Until next time see it, love it, create it! This is Character 32 doing her best to help you!
